Homeowner Responsibilities

Homeowners must maintain the sewer service lines that run from their homes to the District’s main sewer lines and must comply with the District’s rules. Among other things, the rules:

  • require that homeowners get District approval and meet other District requirements before connecting or “tapping” into the District’s main sewer lines or before doing certain other types of work on their sewer service lines;
  • require that homeowners arrange and pay for the District to inspect any connection, disconnection, installation, replacement, reconstruction, or lining of their sewer service lines;
  • prohibit the discharge of pool water, hazardous waste, foreign materials, or other prohibited waste into sewer lines, prohibit any tampering with District lines or manholes, and prohibit accessing District lines or manholes without District approval;
  • require that homeowners pay the District a tap fee when a lot is subdivided or the size of a water tap is increased.

Because the rules establish mandatory requirements and restrictions, and potential penalties for violations, we strongly recommend that you review the rules. Also, please make sure that you provide a copy of the rules to any contractor performing work on your sewer line. To access the rules,  click here.

 If you have any questions, please feel free to contact CRS of Colorado or the District’s Operator in Responsible Charge, Jim Landry.
